  Why remember the bad treatment?

  there are people who have had bad experiences and don't look back.

  but many people on this forum remember it and post about it almost, if not, everyday.

  personally, i've had my share of bad moments.

  There are a few life-altering experiences in this life of greater significance than finding that the religion that you trusted as absolute 'truth' was absolute 'lies', and you had given all your substance and heart to it for years or perhaps decades. And then to have all your friends [and maybe relatives too] desert you like so much spoiled and rotted flesh, on top of all that!

  To me it felt like having my parents die on the same day that I was divorced, lost my kids and found out I had cancer! That kind of trauma needs to heal. This is a place for that healing to happen and it has been of tremendous help to me and countless others.

  we were told so many times that we were slaves 2 not only god but anyone in a secular position of authority.

  so i feel that this only encouraged a subordinate and non confortational attitude with our employers.

  almost 2 the point that that even those of us who are self employed never get 2 develope the killer instinct that is needed 2 compete in the business world.

  I make a very good 'blue collar' living. But the following influenced me with no doubt;

  • The end is near - just get by till then
  • You will not have to raise children [or educate them] in this system - it will be over before you are that old
  • You don't want to waste your few remaining months or years in school - preach instead
  • Jah won't reward your 'secular' work - preach

  I walked away from the opportunity to become a commercial pilot due to that thinking - never went to college due to that thinking - later in life lost a very good job due to that thinking.

  As Blondie states some of that may be individual - but the 'truth' infected my core thinking on matters that did have a real affect on the issue of making a living. I have some resentment for that now that I have reached the age where as a professional pilot I would have been well set and ready to retire to a nice golf course in the south somewhere, and have become aware that the Watchtower org. is a fraud. But if I were still a watchtower slave I would just happily floating along I am sure.

  All in all though, life is what we make it even after we discover what we missed out on by bad decisions. So we do the best we can. Many other things in life could have had the same ill effect that are not watchtower related. Life has twists and turns. Sometimes we twist when we should have turned.

  i zipped thru the new organization book and can tell you that it's a waste of trees.. i think that the updated section on df'ing is mostly just a legalistic response to distance.

  themselves from any potential defamation charges, by default.. it downplays the blood issue and 'worldly' holidays but almost none of that matters.. why?

  because in the end, the sservice dept calls the shots.

  My sis-in-law emailed me and was nearly giddy with excitment over the new book and the yearbook... she said it was evidence that the end was close now.... I told her I didn't read society literature any longer... she never replied...

  Problem is, get a group of these individuals together, and they do damage.

  Jeannie - dead on - no disagreement here. Just that sometimes these threads turn into name calling. I certainly understand from where it springs - I continue to deal with much anger too - having given up most of my productive life to the cult. I like the Mary Poppins quote - on spot for sure. But Steve was a very nice guy when I knew him - but he is a major player now, and for that he will be held to the fire, no doubt.

  at tonights book study i was bored and started reading the bible starting from genesis...and damn its interesting.

  i got to chapter 12 in a hour session.

  7 is used a lot.

  Scholar is no scholar - but I think he is an apologist....tell you what scholar - print out this thread and take it to your elders and ask them to give you an answer about arguing with apostates on line... I am sure they will attribute it in context....

  Thank you for such well researched and well thought out comments - as yours always are!

  It is clear in seeing the true scholarly efforts of Alan and many others on this site, that the 'cream of the crop' in terms of those able to discern truth and reality, do not reside in the Brooklyn Bethel Mansions, but have left the cult and are seeking real 'truth'.

  I did not read the Thiele threads - but I am truly disgusted with the religion that I called 'holy' for 4 decades - and in this area of misrepresentation I feel even greater disdain! Witnesses are trained [say brainwashed] to accept without question the 'truths' presented in the pages of the society's publications. To misuse that trust with such devious methodology is purient.

  Having dropped the shroud of the witness religion about two years back now, my mind is starting to clear of the fog and I am amazed with the duplicity that I find. I have begun to read the NWT again - with a changed paradigm. The amount of falsehood and immoral doctrinal support that has been inserted is unbelievable. Not to say that all translations may not have honest errors - or even doctinally influenced wording - they all do to some extent I am sure. But the literary dishonesty in the NWT is beyond compare.

  Not attempting to hijack the thread, Alan. But the NWT exceeds all other society sponsored misrepresentation doesn't it? Have you done extensive research on the NWT - can you point me to such research by yourself or others? No wonder no reputable Bible scholar ever even notes the existence of this translation!

  Once again - thanx for your well thought out research and commentary here. Such responsible persons to associate with on this site make it a pleasure.

  i think i may have just precipitated my exit from the watchtower a little sooner than i expected.

  i was really looking forward to attending easter services at a local church today, and so made arrangements to ride with a friend of mine and his wife.

  my friend is a recently disfellowshiped former fellow elder.

  Tough spot, huh?

  I think there may be an alternate here - but unusual. Go to the JC meeting if convened [ and there is a chance that won't even happen]. But just don't speak - plead the fifth so to speak. Answer politely that you feel no need to answer, you just wish them to provide the required two witnesses to the charges. If the charge is attending another church ask for witnesses to that event - seeing you get in a car dressed well is not proof of anything.

  Of course we know that sometimes these things are just a sham and they will do as they like - but if they have conscience about it - you may just walk away without a scratch. Thoughts and prayers with you

  in fact i didn't even realise that they were interracial until i was about 12. .

  My cousin married her sister

  My adopted daughter is mullato [half black/half white]

  Two couples in the neighboring cong were mixed racial

  Saw dozens of black/white marrieds at the congregations
